Mobility Aids!

If you think something might help you, don’t hesitate!

If you're reading this and thinking about using a mobility aid- don't put it off like I did!!! Try things and see what could help. We all play a part in reducing shame around using mobility aids. So whether it's a wheelchair or glasses or hearing aids- nobody should feel ashamed and nobody should actively shame others for disabilities they can't control. Disability is something that impacts your ability to go about daily tasks without pain or struggle. Let's stop gatekeeping the word disabled, because chronically ill and neurodivergent people should be allowed to identify with a label that can enable them to access help! If you feel shame around mobility aids or like you're not 'disabled enough' to use one, this is internalised ableism. It's not a crime to try out something that could help you! You're not alone if you feel guilty for asking for help- but just remember EVERYONE has needs, it’s just that Disabled people's needs aren't automatically met by society. So don't feel ashamed or embarrassed- asking for help is brave. Disability can impact anyone at any time, so let's stop being afraid of it!
