What are seizures?

Non epileptic seizures exist.

Lies I’ve been told whilst having a seizure: I promise I can help We will figure this out. You’ll be okay. This is going to get better. You will be out of pain soon. It is the ultimate heartbreak to be told these things, unable to respond, knowing that the doctor with earnest eye contact will disappear just like the rest. Not enough people, not enough medical professionals, know what to do when someone seizes in front of them, so please share this page.

Trigger warning for medical trauma. I have had seizures in hospitals where they have not known the basic procedure… I have had needles stuck in my arm whilst convulsing, been hit, dragged, thrown around. I have hit my head on the side of hospital beds or other objects because nobody cushioned it, I have had my zipper constrict my breathing because nobody checked my neck. I cannot express how frustrating it is to be fully conscious and fully out of control. The more people who know this, the less trauma vulnerable people like me have to go through.
